My name is Noirin Mc Carthy, I am owner and instructor at Classical Pilates Sligo. I am certified by Romana Kryzanowska to teach Pilates. I have been teaching Pilates professionally since 2004.
I did my pre-requisite training In New York with Suzanne Jordan and also at Alyceya Ungaro’s Real Pilates (Formerly known as Tribeca Bodyworks). My teacher training apprenticeship (which took a year, full time) was completed under the supervision of Master Teachers Marjorie Oron and Jane Poerwoatmodjo at the Pilates Studio, The Hague, Netherlands.
I then worked with Diana Sullivan at the Oxford Pilates Studio,U.K. I returned to Ireland in late 2006 and started teaching in Dublin. I set up my own practice in Dublin and have worked there until mid 2019.
To complement my Pilates training, in 2008 I began studying with Tom Myers (author of Anatomy Trains) and certified as a Structural Integrator in 2010. While I do not practice the manual aspect of Structural integration, I certainly gained a 3D understanding of human anatomy and fascial connections, and have found the body reading skills I earned, invaluable.
Following this, in 2011 at London City University, I attended a 6 day cadaver dissection study, under the guidance of Gil Headley. While deepening my anatomical knowledge, I gained insights and understanding into the importance of all body systems and their relationships.
In 2018 I attended a DNS A workshop in Madrid. DNS stands for Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation and is based on developmental kinesiology. Its very much a study of the nervous system and the development of motor patterns. In 2019, I attended SFG 1 Certification training in Belfast. On a stable structure , Kettlebells are an effective, and efficient training tool for strength and conditioning and I really appreciate the Strong First training ethos. I look forward to more training with Strong First Ireland.
I hold a BA Hons degree in Psychology.
In practice, I wish to in-still a sense of autonomy within my clients, where people are free to connect with their bodies in and out of the studio. To be able to transfer the skills they learn in the studio to other movement disciplines and/or functions of daily living and to enjoy the process of learning and self improvement. If that happens, I’m doing well.
